The Basics of Doing Online Work at Home Business

When someone starts an online business , and many do, they tend to think that they know what they are doing. In other words, they don't have a clue. Everyone keep telling them that they need a nice looking website, throw some affiliate programs on it, advertise at free classifieds pages, and watch the money roll in.

Easy money, right? That's what they think. "I don't need anyone to show me how to do this. It shouldn't be hard at all. Actually, it should be a walk in the park." Many people probably think like that.

Beware work-from-home scams

When someone called Oscar to offer him a chance to earn $38,000 working from home, he was interested enough to press the keypad to speak to a live representative.

His enthusiasm plummeted, though, when the rep told him the work involved calling people to tell them they had money due from the government.

Bogus Work-At-Home Jobs Drain Savings

On Dec. 2, state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal issued a routine consumer alert about the dangers of accepting enticing offers to earn money through work-at-home or "mystery shopper" jobs.

I posted the warning on my blog and forgot about it until a couple of days later when I received a nine-page handwritten letter from a Bristol man who lives on his disability income and then an e-mail from a Windsor Locks couple. They had been swindled out of a total of $4,300.Yes folks, these scams are real and many people do fall victim to them, especially those who need work the most and out of desperation will grab for anything.

Companies are finding savings in home-based customer service reps

Companies that supply customer service agents to businesses around the world say they are saving money and attracting better employees by letting them work from their own houses. Using Internet telephone technology, the operators are able to answer questions and hear out complaints as if they were working in a sprawling call center in an office park.

"It gives us access to some high-quality labor that wouldn't work in a call center," said Andrea Ayers, president for customer management for Convergys Corp., an outsourcing company that is ramping up the number of agents who work from home. "This gives us more staffing flexibility, and we can make it work with their lifestyle."

Atty. General warns against work-at-home scam email

Attorney General Jim Hood is warning Mississippians about an e-mail scam offering a work from home position. The e-mail pretends to offer a job in the accounts receivable department of Ashley Furniture.

The hoax e-mail then asks for personal information, including bank account numbers. Computer records indicate the e-mail originated in Nigeria and is not connected to Ashley Furniture.

Working From Home, With Kids in Tow

It’s the most oft-cited rule for telecommuters — and more parents are breaking it all the time: Never try to work from home with small children unless you have child-care help.

More working parents are doing double duty to save money on child care, as reported in today’s “Work & Family” column. For home-based parents, this can mean plenty of TV-viewing to occupy kids, cookie and candy bribes to gain quiet time, interrupted phone calls and projects and lots of frustration.

One work-at-home mom made red and green paper circles to lay down around her desk as a signal to her young school-age children when it was OK to interrupt her. Partly because she rarely used the red circle, it worked. Other parents construct byzantine work schedules around their child’s sleep time or their spouse’s time at home. I’ve been there myself, bribing or begging my children when they were small for just a few more minutes to work.

Orem business provides office for people who work from home

Millions of people across the country work from home. For many, the freedom of being their own boss and working their own hours sounds like a good deal. But there are some downsides to that, and a Utah County man has a solution.

"It's kind of the alternative to putting a laptop under your arm and heading to Starbucks and meeting your friends there. This is a place where you can come and go," explained Jack Hadley, owner of Cowork Utah.

Hadley just opened up Cowork Utah in Orem. The company's building boasts 3,000 square feet of space, with private offices and open areas available for plopping down a laptop and getting to work.

Set proper tone to work at home

Some professions allow you to work from home, which sounds pleasant -- unless the decision was not your own.

Yet some experts say getting laid off doesn't have to be all bad. Like a mother bird booting her chick from the nest, economic hard times could provide you with the start you need to go into business for yourself. There are some things you can do to ease the transition to life in a home office.

The primary rule? Do what you must to make your venture work. If that means setting up an office in your living room, make your new work space as comfortable as possible.

How a laid off mom found a work at home job

Five year ago I lost my job with no family and single mom sick just
come out of hospital, with 4 years old son, I was told I could not go back to
work after I was out of the hospital.

That was so painful; I know what these people are going through right now. I
went to school for marketing and adverting for two years, after college I still
did not get a job. Since then I started telling people my story, about how I
did not what to started looking for a job any more , since then, I know it will
be hard to find a job, I started looking online a work from job it was not easy.

Noisy Neighbors: How to Deal With Them When You Work From Home

One of the downsides of web working is that you’re prone to distractions at home, whether it’s the snacks calling to you from the fridge or a toddler throwing tantrums. I experience these distractions everyday and have found ways around most of them. My most important “weapon against mass distractions”, so to speak, was to wake up at 2:00am and work while the rest of the neighborhood sleeps.

Except for my new neighbors, of course. They moved in last week and, since then, it’s been one loud evening after another.

The first thing I attempted was to talk to them. When they opened their door, it became evident that there were no serious adults to talk to. The people spread out in the living room looked at most 20 years old, and there were a few beer bottles lying around. The karaoke machine was on at full blast, blaring out “Close to You” by The Carpenters. I asked for the owner of the house and a young woman, I’m guessing she was 17, came up to me. I said the little speech that I’ve been practicing in my head:

Home working to beat the credit crunch

PARENTS are looking to work from home in order to beat the credit crunch, according to recruitment consultants.

Mums like Shirley Slater are successfully negotiating their way through the squeeze with remote working and home working employment options.

Mrs Slater, from Boldon Colliery, works for a London-based travel company from home, setting aside a corner of her living room as a makeshift office.

Some Turning to “Work at Home“

Charleston, SC - For the unemployed, the recession is making finding a job a little like finding a needle in a haystack.

"For me not good because I am old and I don’t have any skills just to tell the truth," said Karen Robinson who is unemployed.

The frustration is causing many to start looking any and everywhere for work. Some are now finding it by working from their homes.

"They have to have the skills to be able to have an enterprise at home rather than just say I want to be home more,” said College of Charleston Career Center Director Denny Ciganovic.
